Jammu, Feb 04: Sunil Sharma, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary and Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir, met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to voice serious concerns regarding the rising crime rate in Jammu.
During the meeting, Sharma, according to his statement, highlighted a troubling increase in incidents of theft, murder and robbery that have instilled fear among local residents.
He urged immediate action from the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to ensure public safety. He called for enhanced policing and stricter enforcement of laws to address the growing law and order issues.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve a secure environment,” the BJP leader said, adding, “Rising crime not only threatens public safety but also impacts tourism and economic development in the region.
In his appeal, Sharma called for an increase in police patrolling and the establishment of special task forces to combat criminal activities effectively. He advocated for the integration of technology, such as CCTV surveillance, to deter potential offenders.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, which he described as a serious crisis affecting the youth, Sharma pressed for stronger measures, including rehabilitation programmes and awareness campaigns, alongside stringent actions against drug peddlers.
Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to working collaboratively with authorities, he urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safer community in Jammu and Kashmir.
