Srinagar, Dec 31: In an effort to enhance the travel experience and offer passengers scenic journeys, Northern Railways will begin operating a special Vistadome train service on the Budgam-Banihal route starting from Wednesday, officials said.
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay announced that the Vistadome train service will be extended from January 1 to January 31, 2025, to cater to the growing demand from rail passengers. The service aims to boost tourism and provide a unique travel experience for passengers.

The train, operating under Train Nos. 04688 and 04687, will run daily, except on Fridays. The introduction of the Vistadome service is part of Northern Railways’ initiative to promote rail tourism and showcase the breathtaking landscapes along the Budgam-Banihal route.
The Vistadome train is designed to provide a comfortable and memorable travel experience. Featuring state-of-the-art amenities such as large glass windows, reclining seats, and an observation lounge, the service is set to provide passengers with an immersive travel experience as they journey through the scenic valleys.
A senior railway official said passengers are encouraged to take advantage of the extended Vistadome service to explore the region’s beauty through the panoramic Vista Dome coaches. For a one-way journey, ticket prices are set at ₹940 from Budgam to Banihal, while a round-trip ticket can be purchased for ₹1,880.
The train departs from Budgam, making stops at Srinagar, Awantipora, Anantnag, and Qazigund before reaching Banihal. For the return journey, the train departs from Banihal in the evening and reaches Budgam, providing flexibility for tourists to visit various regional attractions.
The Vistadome coach, with a seating capacity of 40, features wide windows, revolving chairs, and a glass roof, allowing travelers to enjoy uninterrupted views of the stunning landscapes throughout the journey.
The Vistadome service was inaugurated on October 19, 2023, by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, at the Srinagar railway station in Nowgam. The introduction of this service is seen as a significant step towards promoting tourism and enhancing rail travel in the region.
