Srinagar, Dec 30: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) president and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone has raised concerns over the alleged disparity in the issuance of RBA, EWS, and other certificates between Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
In a post on X, he questioned the reluctance of revenue authorities in Kashmir to issue certificates to deserving candidates, urging the government to address the issue promptly.
“I request Omar Abdullah to please check the RBA, EWS, and other certificates issued in Jammu and Kashmir, or routine revenue work. Applications received and certificates issued—Jammu will be far ahead, and why not. Deserving applications should be approved at the earliest,” Lone said.
He criticised the behaviour of certain revenue officials in Kashmir, accusing them of creating unnecessary hurdles for deserving applicants. “Why are the revenue authorities in Kashmir so reluctant to issue certificates to the most deserving candidates? Why do they make them beg? Is it a mindset? What are the challenges that we as a society are facing?” he asked.
The MLA further highlighted what he described as the dual behaviour of some officials. “The same revenue officials who subscribe to victimhood in non-office hours are the ones who manufacture victims in office hours,” he remarked.
Acknowledging that the problem is inherited from previous regimes, the PC chief called on Omar Abdullah to address what he described as “psychological issues afflicting some of our revenue officers.” He pointed out that tehsils have turned into “fiefdoms” and stressed that someone needs to remind these officials that they are government servants, not “warlords of fiefs”.
