The Kangan constituency is poised for a transformative phase under the leadership of its newly elected MLA, Mian Mehar Ali. Coming from a family with a distinguished political legacy, Ali steps into public service with a clear vision to revitalise Kangan into a thriving hub for tourism, healthcare, and education.
In an exclusive interview with Rising Kashmir, Mian Mehar Ali outlined his plans for the constituency, emphasising Kangan’s vast tourism potential, particularly the famed Sonamarg valley. “My top priority is to establish Kangan as one of the leading tourism hubs in the region. The region’s natural beauty provides ample opportunities for sustainable employment, especially for the youth,” Ali remarked. He aims to develop robust infrastructure in Sonamarg while maintaining ecological balance, with a focus on promoting both cultural and adventure tourism to attract a diverse range of visitors.
In addition to tourism, Ali identified healthcare and education as critical areas for immediate attention. He committed to enhancing healthcare facilities within the constituency, ensuring that top-quality medical care is easily accessible to residents. Further, Ali pledged to improve access to education, especially for underprivileged students, and to upgrade basic amenities like water supply, electricity, and sanitation, aiming to elevate the overall quality of life in the region.
Mian Mehar Ali’s election continues the rich political legacy of his family in Kangan. As the fourth generation in public service, Ali follows in the footsteps of his father, Mian Altaf Ahmad, who served as a three-time minister and two-time MLA. “It is both an honour and a responsibility. I am committed to bringing fresh ideas and addressing the challenges that our community faces today,” he said.
Expressing deep gratitude to the people of Kangan, Ali assured them of his dedication to their welfare and progress. “Together, we can make Kangan a model constituency in Jammu and Kashmir,” he concluded.
