Srinagar, Nov 08: Amid high drama and chaos, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed a dramatic clash on Friday between the People’s Conference (PC) president Sajad Lone and National Conference (NC) leader Tanvir Sadiq, who exchanged sharp words in the House.
The confrontation began when Tanvir Sadiq, while addressing the assembly, remarked that some members in the House were taking directions from their bosses in Delhi. This comment prompted a sharp response from Lone.
During his speech, Sadiq described the resolution brought by the NC as historic, claiming that it fulfilled a promise. However, he added that those who had initially celebrated the resolution were now being directed to weaken it.
Tanvir, the MLA from Zadibal constituency, questioned who was behind these directives, adding, “I don’t know who is instructing them.” He also took a swipe at Lone’s party, saying that those who had called Modi their “big brother” in 2014 were now raising slogans against him. This comment prompted Lone to fire back, asking Sadiq who the Foreign Minister was in the BJP government during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s time.
Sadiq, visibly agitated, responded to Lone’s criticism of the NC resolution: “I don’t know where these five leaders are getting their directions from,” he said, his tone increasingly sharp.
Earlier in his speech, Sajad had asked the NC to reconsider its position, saying the resolution lacked the necessary strength and foresight.
The exchange between the two leaders escalated, drawing attention from all sides of the Assembly. Lone had earlier suggested that the NC’s stance on the resolution was weak and lacked vision. He warned that it could have a significant historical impact if not reconsidered.
In retaliation, Sadiq accused Lone of playing into personal interests when he and his party joined hands with the BJP in Kashmir in 2014. “If you hadn’t allied with the BJP back then, the situation in Kashmir would have been very different. But for personal gain, you didn’t care about the future of Jammu and Kashmir,” he asserted.
The clash became so heated that the PC chief shouted back at the NC MLA, prompting the Speaker to intervene and restore order in the House.
It is worth noting that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has witnessed numerous protests, paper tearing and accusations over the past three days. However, the fierce exchange between these two leaders garnered the most attention.
