DYSS all set to script history, hosting National School Games in four disciplines in Jammu

Need to nurture youth to develop sporting excellence: Tara

Jammu, Oct 30: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) is all set to script history as it is going to host 68th National School Games in four disciplines of sports in Jammu for the first time since the inception of the Department.
The sports disciplines in which Jammu will be hosting the 68th National School Games include Judo, Fencing, Wushu and Football.
While Judo U-17 boys will be held at Indoor Sports Complex Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu from November 7 to November 11, 2024, Fencing U-14 and U-17 boys and girls will be held at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu from November 12 to November 21.

Wushu U-17 boys and girls will take place from November 22 to November 26, 2024 at Indoor Sports Complex Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu while Football U-17 boys and girls will be held at the twin venues of Sainik School Nagrota and Khelgaon Nagrota from November 30 to December 10, 2024 with a break on December 5.
Meanwhile, in a meeting at his office chambers, Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General Youth Services and Sports served strict directions to the officers with regard to holding these sporting extravaganzas in a most befitting manner.
He said developing top class sports infrastructure and streamlining the sports calendar and activities would be the top priority for the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
“Our focus should be to nurture youth and to develop sporting excellence. For doing so, the sportspersons would be provided with the best sports ecosystem so that they can realise their full potential,” said Tara.
Later-on, Tara visited Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu and reviewed the arrangements put in place for the Fencing tournament.
He was accompanied by Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports (Central), Jitender Mishra; Director Physical Education and Sports University of Jammu, Daud Iqbal; Former International Fencer and Coach Rashid Ahmed; Former International Fencer and Fencing Coach of Youth Services and Sports Department, Ujjawal Gupta and National medallist, Abdul Qadir.
On the occasion, the Director General interacted with young fencers who were sweating-it-out during the Preparatory Camp prior to the Nationals.
It is pertinent to mention here that J&K has won a good haul of medals in all four disciplines at the National scene.
