Jammu, Oct 22: The All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), a registered body working to strengthen grassroots-level democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, has announced its full support to the Omar Abdullah-led government in tackling terrorism in the Union Territory.
Anil Sharma, the president of the organisation, while interacting with media persons here said, “The major challenge before the UT government is terrorism, and AJKPC assures its fullest support to tackle it. We are with the government and police.”
He said other political issues of the AJKPC would be highlighted and presented before the government at a later stage. Sharma expressed shock over the recent gruesome terror attacks that killed half a dozen people and left many others injured. He demanded that the families of the deceased be provided adequate relief and ex-gratia.
Sharma further said that the AJKPC is hopeful the incumbent government of Omar Abdullah will do justice to all regions and sections of society, whether they voted for him and his party or not. He welcomed the statements made by Omar Abdullah and his cabinet colleagues regarding equal developmental opportunities for both the Kashmir and Jammu regions.
CITU seeks compensation for slain migrant workers
Srinagar, Oct 22: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) J&K President Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has called on the government to provide adequate compensation to the families of migrant workers who lost their lives in the recent Gagangeer, Ganderbal terror attack.
In addition to financial support, Tarigami demanded free and specialised medical treatment for those injured in the attack.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader urged the government to arrange for the airlifting of the deceased workers’ bodies to their home destinations and facilitate their families in performing the last rites promptly.
