Srinagar, Aug 17: Islamia College Srinagar celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The campus, adorned with the colors of the national flag since the night of August 1st, witnessed active participation from both teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students, in a series of events throughout the day.
The celebrations began with the Principal, Professor (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf, unfurling the tricolor in the presence of staff, students, and supporting personnel. The national anthem was sung by all attendees, echoing sentiments of patriotism and unity. Prior to the flag hoisting, cadets from the college’s Naval and Armed NCC units, dressed in full uniform, escorted the Principal to the podium, demonstrating discipline and respect.
In her address, Professor Yousuf highlighted the significance of Independence Day and linked it to the fourth anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. She urged the youth and women to actively participate in the campaign, emphasizing their role in shaping a developed India by 2047. She further reflected on the day as a reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the ongoing responsibility to uphold democratic ideals.
The event concluded with light refreshments and sweets served to all participants, arranged by the College’s Protocol Committee. Additionally, staff members from the college attended the main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.
