Kulgam, Jul 10:Altaf Memorial Government Degree College (AMGDC), Kilgam, on Wednesday, kicked off the intra-college badminton tournament aimed at engaging students in different sports activities.
The tournament, organized by the Department of Physical Education AMDGC Kilam in collaboration with the NSS unit of the college under the aegis of ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’, began on July 10th and includes both male and female students.
According to the organizers, ten male contestants and five female contestants participated in the competition.
“The purpose behind organizing this event was to engage youth in physical activity and ward them off from the menace of drug abuse,” said one of the organizing members.
He said that in the day-long tournament, among the male contestants, Hashim Manzoor of the 2nd semester emerged victorious, whereas Basit Amin of the 4th semester was the runner-up.
“Among the female contestants, Adfar Majeed of the 4th semester won the event, whereas Ifshana of the 4th semester was the runner-up. All the participants were awarded medals, and the winners and runners-up were felicitated with trophies,” he said.
Prof. Shabir Ahmad Padder, Principal of AMGDC, said that games are important for physical activity and for creating a healthy society.
He urged students to engage in productive activities and avoid immoral acts, including drug abuse.
