6th Kargil International Marathon-2023 attracts enthusiastic runners

Kargil, September 17: The 6th Kargil International Marathon-2023, a two-day sporting extravaganza, commenced on Sunday at the Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Biamathang, Kargil, witnessing an impressive turnout of avid runners.
The inauguration of this grand event was graced by guests, including Ravinder Kumar Dangi, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh; Sachin Malik (YSM), General Officer Commanding 8 Mountain Division Kargil; Deputy Commissioner/CEO of LAHDC, Kargil, Shirkant Suse; and SSP Kargil, Anayat Ali Choudhary, among others. The joint effort of these dignitaries marked the official start of the marathon.
This year’s marathon carries the theme “Run for Hundurman,” emphasizing the promotion of border tourism and showcasing the picturesque village of Hundurman in Kargil as an enticing destination for both domestic and international tourists.
During his address, Ravinder Kumar Dangi praised the successful execution of the 6th Kargil International Marathon and acknowledged the active participation of all stakeholders, including the District Administration, Ladakh police, Sarhad Pune, and the 8 Mountain Division. He emphasized the event’s role in elevating Kargil’s global profile, attracting tourists from around the world.
Dangi also lauded the athletic prowess and sportsmanship displayed by Kargil’s athletes, expressing confidence in their potential to represent the region at national and international sporting platforms.
The marathon featured four distinct categories: Full Marathon (42 kilometers), Half Marathon (21 kilometers), Half Marathon (10 kilometers), and Half Marathon (5 kilometers), with the Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium serving as the starting and finishing point for all races.
Participants who showcased exceptional performances in the marathon were honored with medals and certificates.
Notable winners included Nasurulla Elye, Zeeshan Ali, Hashim Reyaz, Tabassum Fatima, Zanab Bnoo, Parveen Banoo, Sonam Stanzin, Nawaz Ali, Rahul Surya Wanshi, Skarma Idong Lanzes, Asiya Banoo, Shanaz Parveen, Ritik Sharma, Kulbir Singh, Tsewang Nangdan, Tashi ladol, Stanzin Chondol, and Stanzin Dolkar, among others.
This monumental event was made possible through meticulous coordination among various departments, ensuring the seamless execution of the marathon.
The central organizing committee, comprising members from the District Administration, Ladakh Police, and Sarhad Pune, worked tirelessly to bring this marathon to fruition. The 6th Kargil International Marathon-2023 received recognition from the Athletics Federation India, New Delhi, and AIM, World Athletics, New York.
The marathon received support from Arham Foundation, Pune, and was co-sponsored by Suhana, 8 Mountain Division, and AKTTA, further enhancing its grandeur and success.
