Kulgam, May 04:The Department of Youth Services and Sports, on Thursday, organised an event to convey the essence of the impending G20 summit in which hundreds of youngsters took part, here in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The programme was dubbed “One Earth – One Family = One Future”.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr Bilal Mohi Ud Deen, kicked off the Walkathon 2023 from the Mini Secretariat cum DC Office in Kulgam.
DC Kulgam informed reporters that today’s unique Walkathon, in which hundreds of students took part, was in conjunction with the G20 conference. The Walkathon is intended to raise awareness of the approaching summit.
“The G20 summit, in which various state heads will participate, we in Kulgam organised a programme to ensure that we educate people, particularly youth, about the importance of this summit. The excitement with which the boys and girls participate will go a long way towards conveying the idea of how vital the G20 conference is,” he said.
We were successful in conveying the message, as seen by the large number of people who participated in the walkathon; we should all be glad that such an important event is being held in India, he concluded.
“The Walkathon was organised from DC Office to Sports Stadium, in which more than 1500 both Boys and Girls from all Six Sports Zones of Kulgam participated and culminated at Sports Stadium Kulgam where participants were briefed by the DYSSO District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO),” an official from Youth Services and Sports, Kulgam, informed Rising Kashmir.
The programme attempted to convey the spirit of India’s G20 chairmanship. He believes that the mega-event will instill in schoolchildren and the general public the significance of the G20. “Around 20 Higher Secondary schools and 60 High and Middle schools participated in this mega Event,” he added.
