44th Sub-Junior National Volleyball C’ship: J&K boys beat Chandigarh in opening match

Jammu, Jan 3:  Jammu and Kashmir defeated Chandigarh in the opening group match in the 44th Sub-Junior National Volleyball Championship for boys and girls at Laxmi Public School, Karkardooma, Delhi on Tuesday.
As per the reports reaching here, the J&K boys team made it a 3-1 win in the best of four games with the set score being 20-25,25-19,25-23, 25-19.
Yasir Hamid, Harshit Raina, Raghav Tadia and Aman Kumar remained in limelight for their superb display of spikes and blocks thus helping the side to win against Chandigarh.
Placed in Pool-2, J&K shall now meet opponents from Gujarat, Puducherry, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra in the next outings.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ section, J&K lost to Tamil Nadu by 3-0 (10-25,12-25, 08-25) and Kerala by 3-0 (25-07, 25-06, 25-06). Payal Sharma from J&K played an excellent game.
Placed in Pool-D, J&K girls will play against Telangana, Uttarakhand and Puducherry in the next matches.
Earlier, the championship, organised by Delhi Volleyball Association under the aegis of the Volleyball Federation of India, was inaugurated by the chief guest, Yogeshwar Dutt,  Olympic Bronze Medallist in presence of Guests of Honour, Vipan Sachdeva, President BJP Delhi and Om Parkesh Sharma MLA Vishwash Nagar.
A total of 48 teams including 25 boys and 23 girls are participating in the championship.
Saroj Sharma, Treasurer, Delhi Olympic Association, Anil Chaudhary, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of India, Kuldeep Magotra, Chairman Control Committee and Treasurer Sunil Tiwari were also present.
On this occasion, Kuldeep Vats, President of the Delhi Olympic Association and President of Delhi Volleyball Association and Kulbir Singh Gehlot, General Secretary of Delhi Volleyball Association honoured the chief guest and other dignitaries by presenting shawls and mementoes.
The J&K teams are accompanied by Subhash Kumar Sharma, Neloofar Habib, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Neha Bhagat, Anil Kumar and Sageer Ahmed as managers and coaches respectively.
Meanwhile, Patron-in-Chief Volleyball Association of J&K (VAJK), Raj Daluja, President Sidharth Daluja and other office bearers congratulated the boys’ team and coach while wishing them better performance in subsequent matches.
Today’s results BOYS: Punjab defeated Odisha 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-19); Telangana beat Himachal Pradesh 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-21); Manipur beat Assam 3-0 (25- 15, 25-21, 25-14); Uttar Pradesh beat Jharkhand 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-18); Uttarakhand beat Bihar 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16), Tamil Nadu beat West Bengal 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-10); Jammu and Kashmir beat Chandigarh 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25- 23, 25-19); Gujarat beat Maharashtra 3-1 (26-28, 25-15, 26-24, 25-14).
GIRLS: Telangana beat Pondicherry 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-16); Gujarat beat Odisha 3-0 (25-09, 25-17, 25-10); Himachal Pradesh beat Jharkhand 3-0 (25-23, 25-09, 25-07); Rajasthan beat Assam 3-0 (25-08, 25-10, 25-16); Punjab beat Bihar 3-0 (25-06, 25-06, 25 -22); Uttar Pradesh beat Maharashtra 3-1 (25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 25-11); Delhi beat Karnataka 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 24-26, 25-17).
