Baramulla, Oct 23: Acting tough against drug peddlers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, the Jammu and Kashmir police booked three most wanted and notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla and lodged them in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu.
Police identified the three notorious drug smugglers as Umar Mohiuddin Ahanger son of Ghulam Mohiuddin, a resident of Goom Ahmadpora, Shabir Ahmad Khan son of Late Samander Khan, a resident of Wanigam Bala Pattan and Peerzada Mudasir Ahmad Shah alais Bata son of Peerzada Mohammad Maqbool Shah resident of Chanderseer Pattan.
A police official said that the trio have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority.
“The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu,” he said.
Police said that many cases are registered against these drug smugglers and were involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth of Baramulla, Kreeri, Pattan and other areas of District Baramulla.
“Despite their involvement in many FIR’s they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth,” police said.
General public of Baramulla appreciated the role of Police for their action against drug peddlers.
