Srinagar, Dec 31: The Traffic Department of Rural Kashmir has concluded 2024 with significant achievements in enforcement, collecting a total of ₹123,980,331 in fines through 410,599 challans issued during the year.
According to data available with Rising Kashmir, the enforcement efforts resulted in 157,400 court challans and 253,199 compound challans. The fines included ₹7,294,381 from court challans, ₹116,587,400 from compound fines, and ₹98,550 in crane charges.
In addition to monetary penalties, the department seized 3,479 vehicles for violations, including 1,523 two-wheelers, 87 three-wheelers, and 1,869 four-wheelers.
The enforcement also targeted compliance with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). A total of 3,413 challans were issued for HSRP violations, realizing fines amounting to ₹3,827,000.
Furthermore, the department recommended 896 cases for document suspension or cancellation, including 37 driving licenses, 815 registration certificates, and 44 route permits.
The Traffic Department noted a significant reduction in road accidents and fatalities compared to 2023, attributing this to intensified enforcement drives and public awareness campaigns conducted throughout the year.
