Ganderbal, Apr 4: Due to recent snowfall in the area, an avalanche struck many locations near Zojila Pass on Tuesday, forcing the closure of Srinagar- Leh Highway to all traffic.
In response to an avalanche at the Zojila Pass in the Ganderbal region of central Kashmir, an official informed Rising Kashmir that the Srinagar-Leh highway was closed to traffic.
He said that avalanches hit near Panimatha and Kai-Pathri on Zojila Pass.
“Men and machinery have been put in place to restore the highway, there is no report of any loss of life or damage so far,” the official said.
To mention, around five to six inches of fresh snow had accumulated on the Zojila pass,Gumri,and Zero Point on Tuesday.
Following the closure of the highway due to fresh snowfall dozens of vehicles have been stranded from Sonamarg Side.
Meanwhile, life was thrown out of gear on Tuesday as rain lashed Kashmir valley, including central Kashmir while the minimum temperature remained above normal.
The MeT officials said that since the morning the upper reaches of Central Kashmir including Gund, Kullan, Gagangeer, Sonamarg witnessed fresh snowfall resulting in a drop in maximum temperatures.
