World AIDS day commemorated at GMC Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 01: A day-long program on World AIDS Day was conducted at the auditorium of Government Medical College Srinagar which was organised by the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar in collaboration with JK AIDS Control Society. Dr S. Muhammad Salim Khan, HOD Community Medicine gave the keynote address on the 25th world AIDS Day.
Dr Masood Tanvir, Principal/Dean, GMC Srinagar while inaugurating the CME cum seminar emphasised wider awareness among all stakeholders keeping in view the escalation of cases of Hepatitis among high-risk individuals and groups. He complimented the department of Community Medicine for conducting the program. Dr Taha Ayub, a Lecturer in Community Medicine who was also the organising secretary dealt in detail withthe epidemiology of AIDS while Dr Naeem Uddin, a Lecturer of Microbiology presented various testing modalities of HIV/AIDS. 
Imtiyaz Khan, assistant director, of JK AIDS Control Society gave a scenario of HIV/AIDS in J&K and efforts made by JKACS.
Dr Anjum Farhana HOD Microbiology and Dr Mohammad Iqbal Pandit, associate professor of Community Medicine chaired the sessions. 
HODs, faculty, Dr JehanZaib Dy Director of Health, resident doctors and students of GMC Srinagar, and staff from ICTC and SRL attended the program. A quiz competition was conducted among medical students of GMC Srinagar which was won by a group comprising Mehak, Mariya, Hubaashiya, Azra and Mehnaaz, MBBS students while the poster competition was won by Kifayatullah, an MBBS student and Dr Mehvish Afzal Khan in MD category. The posters were judged by Dr Sameena Farhat Hakak, HOD Pharmacology, Dr Farida Noor, HOD Forensic Medicine and Dr Sheikh Bilal Ahmed, HOD Pathology.
Dr FurqanaMuzamil and Dr Huzaifa ParvaizChalkoo, PG scholars in Community Medicine moderated the sessions. Dr Taha Ayub, Dr Muzamil Hassan Khan and Dr RuqiaQuansar, Lecturers were the organising secretaries, said Dr S. Muhammad Salim Khan professor and HOD, Community Medicine GMC Srinagar who was also the organising chairman of the program. Certificates and mementoes were distributed by Dr Masood Tanvir Principal GMC Srinagar on the valedictory function.
