Srinagar, Nov 04: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) chief Sajad Lone on Monday reaffirmed his unwavering support for Article 370, saying his party will back any resolution related to the issue in the Assembly.
Speaking to the media persons after the conclusion of the first day of Assembly elections, Lone said, “Article 370 is not a closed book.”
He assured that the issue would resurface in upcoming Assembly sessions and that the focus of the current session has been on this significant matter.
“There was no mention of Article 370 in the LG’s address, ” Sajad said, adding, “In the National Conference’s manifesto, this was a priority. However, on the first day of the assembly, there was no mention of it.”
The PC chief further said that only a handful of members, around four to five, have voiced support for a resolution on Article 370, whereas BJP and the National Conference united to oppose it.
He challenged the NC’s position on the matter, asking them to clarify to the public whether they genuinely support or oppose the abrogated provision.
The MLA Handwara criticised what he described as “inconsistent” stances taken by some parties, asserting that the People’s Conference has maintained a clear and consistent position on Article 370. He also referenced promises made in party manifestos, noting that while some had pledged to address Article 370, their actions have been lacking in direction. “We are prepared to support any genuine initiative brought forward regarding Article 370,” he said, adding that the PC was committed to backing any sincere approach on the issue.
In a pointed remark, the PC chief addressed past allegations where his party was labelled as the “B-team of the BJP”. “The recent political alignments have made it clear to the public who truly aligns with the BJP’s stance,” he said.
