19 dead, several injured after bus skids off road in Udhampur

Udhampur, Apr 20 : At least nineteen people died and several others injured after a passenger bus skidded off the road in Kagort village of Ramnagar's Udhampur district on Monday, officials said.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that soon after the incident, police, rescue teams and locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

He said at least 19 people have died in the incident, while several others sustained injuries. "The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment," he added.

DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma said there is a very sharp curve at the spot. "The driver may have lost control while negotiatin gthe sharp curve. The vehicle hit a parapet and rolled down into the gorge," he said.

On whether the vehicle was overloaded, he said it is a matter of investigation.
