Two local LeT terrorists neutralized in Shopian encounter: Police

“`Shopian Police alongwith security forces have neutralized two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in South Kashmir’s district Shopian. Besides, illegal structure used by terrorist, demolished in Pulwama. 

A Police spokesperson said, “Based on specific information regarding presence of terrorists in village Alshipora area of district Shopian. A joint cordon and search operation was launched by Shopian Police, Army (44RR) and CRPF (178BN) in the said area.”

“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter”, he said.

In the ensuing encounter, 02 terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Marifat Maqbool son of Mohammad Mangloo resident of Cheigund Keegam, Shopian and Jazim Farooq @Abrar son of Farooq Ahmad Wani resident of Heff Shirmal, Shopian. 

As per the police records, both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities. Pertinent to mention here that the killed terrorist Jazim Farooq @Abrar was involved in case FIR No. 14/2023 under section 302, 307 IPC, 7/27Arms Act, 16, 18, 20 UAP Act of Police Station Litter pertaining to the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma. Terrorist Marifat Maqbool was involved in case FIR No 202/2022 under section 20, 38 ULA(P) Act of Police Station Shopian.It is pertinent to mention that another terrorist , Aqib Bhat of malangpora Pulwama involved in killing of Late Sanjay Sharma was already killed in Padgampora encounter in the month of February 2023. 

A spokesperson said that Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

ADGP Kashmir congratulated the joint team of Police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage and termed the operation as a big success. 

In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.

Meanwhile, revenue authorities under the Police protection tonight demolished illegal structures on government land (Dar-ul-uloom) on the recommendations of NIA in Pulwama. 

Pertinent to mention here that Police and Army had conducted an operation during intervening night of 11/12th March in 2022 in a Darul Uloom located at Chewa Kalan Pulwama in which one local terrorist Aquib Mushtaq resident of Kareemabad and one FT got killed. 

In this connection, investigation of case FIR No 50/2022 was later on taken over by NIA and during investigation, NIA arrested the administrators of said Dar-Ul-uloom namely Naseer Molvi resident of ChewaKalan and his associate namely Imtiyaz who are still under custody. The said Dar-Ul-uloom comprising of three single storied rooms were built on Govt land and were redundant since occurrence of encounter i.e. March 11/12, 2022. Accordingly, on the recommendations of NIA these illegal structures on Govt land got demolished tonight by revenue authorities under Police protection.
