Srinagar, Mar 02: To make the Tulip Garden at Zabarwan Hills more appealing to tourists, four new varieties of tulips will be showcased this year to tourists, floriculture officials said on Thursday. These new varieties have been brought over from Holland.
Divulging details, Deputy Director Floriculture Kashmir IkhlasShayiq told Rising Kashmir that every year they import some new varieties to this garden to make it more appealing. This year, they have imported four new tulip varieties from Holland. These varieties are Cap Knowya, Hamilton, Sweet Heart, and Christmas.
He said these new varieties will give a new experience to their visitors, adding that we are trying our best to add more new varieties to this garden to make it more beautiful. This year we also expanded the channel to the top of the garden. In addition, some fountains have been set up in the garden to make it more attractive. We are hopeful the visitors will love this channel. The preparations at this garden are in full swing, and we are expecting a large number of people to throng here this year.
Every year, some new varieties are added to the garden. At present, there are 68 varieties of tulips; the new four varieties would add more charm to this garden, and the department’s efforts are on to make it glamorous to allure tourists from all over the world.
The department has pressed hundreds of professional gardeners who are working tirelessly to plant tulips in the garden, which is spread out over 30 hectors on the banks of Dal Lake. Last year, as many as 3.66 lakh tourists thronged the garden, which was the highest ever.
When asked when the garden would be thrown open, the officer said last year the garden was thrown open on March 23, and this year we are expecting the garden to be opened the last week of March, subject to the weather. However, he said the government has to make the final call on the opening of the tulip garden.
Earlier speaking to Rising Kashmir, in-charge of the Tulip Garden Inam Rehman said all the preparations are in full swing at the garden and both men and machinery are on the job to make this garden beautiful to allure more tourists.
