Established in 2011 with a mere 10 students, a government primary school in the village of GanaieMohallaPariwan, Kulgam, has defied odds and emerged as a beacon of educational excellence. Led by dedicated teachers and bolstered by community support, the Government Primary School has transformed into a model institution, rivalling even private schools in quality.
Zahoor Ahmad Shah, one of the pioneering teachers at the school, recounted the journey of proactive engagement with the local community. “We involved and sensitized mothers, who are often more available, to attend meetings and take an active role in their children’s education,” Shah said. He emphasized the school’s commitment to providing essential learning materials to underprivileged students, including notebooks, pencils, and pens.
Muzafer Ahmad Lone, another dedicated educator with specialized training, implemented innovative teaching methods to enhance classroom engagement. From puppetry to project-based learning, the curriculum was enriched to stimulate students’ intellectual curiosity. Leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the school embraced modern teaching tools, such as overhead projectors and virtual reality headsets.
“Our teachers’ confidence in the quality of education here is evident by their decision to enroll their own children in the school,” Lone affirmed. Despite facing challenges like limited infrastructure, with three rooms accommodating over 129 students across eight classes, the school’s commitment to excellence remains unwavering.
AltafHussain, a parent at the school, expressed satisfaction with the quality of education provided. However, he urged authorities to sanction additional infrastructure to alleviate overcrowding concerns and ensure a conducive learning environment for all students.
As the Government Primary School in Kulgam continues its remarkable journey of growth and transformation, it serves as a testament to the power of dedicated educators and community collaboration in shaping the future of education.
