In a devastating incident near Gagangeer Hung area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a Tavera vehicle carrying tourists met with an accident, resulting in four confirmed deaths, one still missing, and two rescued with injuries.

The incident unfolded when the Tavera vehicle (registration number 8950/JK13B) plunged into the Nallah Sindh after the driver lost control, causing eight tourists to be submerged in the water.

Upon receiving the information, a coordinated rescue effort was swiftly launched, spearheaded by SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, SHO P/S Gund Lateef Ali, SHO Sonamarg Turk Zahoor, SDRF Gund Component, 34 Assam Rifles, CRPF 118 Bn, Traffic Police,Tourist Police, APCO Company along with Machinery, DSP Operation Ganderbal, local volunteers, PHC Kullan, Sonamarg teams, Tehsildar Gund, and Fire Services, among other officials. This extensive response led to the recovery of two injured tourists, who were promptly transferred to PHC Kullan and subsequently to SKIMS Soura for advanced medical care.

Tragically, during the ongoing rescue operation, the bodies of four tourists have been retrieved from the river, while one remain unaccounted for as per preliminary reports. Remarkably, the driver of the vehicle survived the accident.

Officials continue their efforts, aiming to retrieve the remaining missing person and the submerged vehicle from the Sindh river. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are underway, with comprehensive details expected to emerge upon the completion of the rescue operation.
