Srinagar, Oct 02: The Department of Tourism, J&K, on Sunday organised a ‘Run for Birds’ as part of ‘The J&K Bird Festival, 2022’ from Duck Park Foreshore Road, Dal Lake to Zero Bridge Shalimar Srinagar.
‘The Run’ was a part of the pre-festive events for ‘The J&K Bird festival, 2022’, which is going to be held from 3rd to 8th October, at Pahalgam and Srinagar. The event is being conducted in collaboration with Sanctuary Nature Foundation, Mumbai, in which 200 students from various schools across Kashmir participated with full of enthusiasm and also enjoyed a bird walk as a part of the activity.
Sanctuary Nature Foundation is working with The Department of Tourism, J&K, to help conduct the festival this is a wonderful opportunity to create awareness about J&K’s Avian Biodiversity and enable conservation efforts, provide training to local guides and support livelihood options for locals’ stakeholders.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has more than 500 species of birds, with some rare and uncommon species like Orange Bullfinch, Little Bittern, Kashmir Flycatcher and Kashmir Nutcracker calling it home.
J&K Bird Festival, 2022 is the first of its kind to link local biodiversity with citizens by organizing activities like Run for Birds, nature photography, capacity building, painting, photo gallery exhibitions and workshops.
We will have a series of bird walks at Pahalgam, Hokersar, Shankaracharya, Pampore and other bird-rich places around Srinagar.
