To encourage local entrepreneurs Director Sericulture J&K visits Silk Reeling Units

Srinagar, Apr 15: In an effort to revolutionize Sericulture Industry and bringing back the glory of this sector Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director Sericulture J&K on Monday undertook a significant visit to a private Silk Reeling unit namely M/S Bombyx Mori Silk & Textiles, located at the Sidco Industrial Complex in Khanmo, Srinagar.
The visit was a part of his ongoing efforts for encouraging local entrepreneurs and promote local businesses, besides, involving youth in sericulture activities to provide them dignified livelihood and ample employment opportunities.
During his visit, the Director Sericulture J&K, while interacting with the management and workers of M/S Bombyx Mori Silk & Textiles, he was apprised about the various operations being undertaken with the Automatic Reeling Machine, Multi end and Cottage Basin for silk reeling/ weaving etc. at the said unit. Moreover, the management of the said unit also shared some insights with Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director Sericulture J&K viz-a-viz the utilization of 1.50 lac Kgs green cocoons for reeling of 11,000 Kgs of Silk Yarn to manufacture 2.00 lac meters of Silk Cloth in the said Unit. He commended the entrepreneurial spirit exemplified by the establishment and underscored the importance of supporting such ventures to harness the economic potential of the Sericulture Industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Director Sericulture J&K, emphasized the pivotal role of silk reeling units like M/S Bombyx Mori Silk & Textiles in the socio-economic fabric of the region and highlighted their contribution to employment generation and economic growth. He reiterated the Department’s commitment to providing necessary support and cooperation to entrepreneurs in the sericulture sector for ensuring a conducive environment for their growth and success. He further underscored the need that apart from making relentless efforts for achieving Double Cocoon Production in J&K the Department of Sericulture also strives to encourage consumption of cocoons locally by local reeling Unit holders in order to develop and strengthen Post Cocoon Sector to leverage the potential of Sericulture Industry in J&K for employment generation and to augment the income generation of people significantly. Furthermore, the Director Sericulture J&K extended his encouragement to other local entrepreneurs also and urged them to explore opportunities in silk reeling and related sectors. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the department, industry stakeholders the entrepreneurial community and youth to realize the full potential of sericulture in Jammu and Kashmir.
The visit of Bhat to M/S Bombyx Mori Silk & Textiles serves as a testament to the department’s proactive approach towards promoting entrepreneurship ecosystem and fostering economic development in the region. The Director Sericulture J&K was accompanied by District Sericulture Officer, Srinagar and other officer of the department.
