Srinagar, Dec 12: As the mercury continues to plummet in Kashmir valley, the sales for warm and woollen clothing to fight the freezing weather have gone up from the past several weeks.
The markets across the city are seeing an increasing demand for the winter related necessities, be it warm clothing, furnishing, blankets etc.
These days the shoppers can be seen busy choosing and buying different kinds of woollen clothes from the markets or even makeshift stalls to fight the persistent cold weather conditions. The people associated with such business revealed that in the winter season markets witness good sales as the locals swarm up to purchase warm clothes or other winter related products.
The shopkeepers revealed that the intensifying cold wave was not only attracting locals but also the tourists visiting from other parts of the country who are visiting Kashmir to delve into the valley’s winter spectacle.
Those associated with the business revealed that the intensifying cold wave amid plunging temperatures was pushing people to purchase warm clothes while the sales have gone up manifold.
“Markets witness a rise in sales of warm outfits or other winter related stuff with the onset of the winter season. Since there has been a constant dip in temperatures for the past few weeks, locals are buying warm clothing”, Mohammad Ibraheem, who runs a garment store at city centre Lal Chowk, said.
In addition to the clothes there has been an immense increase in the sale of warm furnishings, blankets, quilts and other accessories that fall into the per-requisite for the cold winter season in Kashmir valley.
“ For the past one month there has been an increasing demand for warm items like blankets, furnishing, carpets etc. One can see the shops and stores are crowded with shoppers buying all winter related products to keep warm during the bone chilling cold which we have been witnessing these days,” Ibraheem said.
He said that the demand for the woollens, jackets, coats, sweaters, cardigans and shawls has gone up with the dip in temperatures.
While the markets and the business scenario across the valley bears fluctuations and shifting patterns from time to time, the changing climatic conditions do provide some sort of fillip to the business.
Not only stores, the street markets have been crowded with people thronging the stalls to buy woollens and warm outfits.
Mohammad Aadil, the president of the Srinagar Sunday Market Union, told Rising Kashmir that the Sunday market has been witnessing huge sales for warm clothing and furnishing with people in large numbers thronging to buy any products at throwaway and easily affordable prices.
“Like summer, people throng Sunday markets to buy warm clothes, sweaters, jackets, furnishings, and bedding in the winter season also. Apart from basking in a diverse choice people can buy quality products available at much lower prices. For individuals from lower-income families, it’s advantageous to buy branded clothing for the winter season at such affordable rates.” Mohammad Aadil said.
Adding, “Sunday market witnesses huge crowds during winter months. The market isn’t just for those with lower incomes; higher-income groups and tourists also shop here because of the diverse choice in clothing or any winter related items that are available here at affordable prices.”
