Jammu, Aug 29: Senior CPI(M) leader and MLA M.Y. Tarigami Friday urged the State administration to ensure the speedy restoration of power supply and potable drinking water to the inmates living in various migrant colonies in Jammu. The recent floods have wreaked havoc, claiming precious human lives, damaging residential houses, and devastating public utility infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu region has been badly hit by this unprecedented deluge, prompting outcry and widespread calls for help. The migrant colonies in Jammu, particularly Jagti Township, Nagrota Camp, Purkhoo Camp, Muthi Camp, and other areas, have been severely affected by the floods. Public utilities in the camps, including roads, power, and drinking water facilities, have been damaged, causing severe hardships for the residents. Inhabitants of Nagrota and Jagti camps have regularly suffered from a lack of potable water during the monsoon season, and no permanent solution has yet been devised to address this issue. A sizeable number of TRT quarters, especially in Jagti Township, are in dilapidated condition, with damaged internal ceilings posing a constant threat to residents’ lives. Tarigami exhorted the administration to take immediate steps to restore power and drinking water facilities in these camps without delay, and to formulate a comprehensive plan to permanently resolve the drinking water problems of Jagti and Nagrota camps.
