Srinagar, Nov 12: In an effort to make Srinagar trash-free, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Saturday said the corporation will close down all the open garbage collections in Srinagar.
The corporation, as per a senior official, has made the final arrangements for the same, and within three months the sites in the city will close down.

The officer said they have also been collecting trash from every household in the city, which aims to provide a neat and green environment. “A hopper vehicle is going daily early in the morning to collect the waste from the door in Srinagar.”
The Chief Sanitation Officer, of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, told Rising Kashmir that there were 300 open garbage collection sites in Srinagar. Among them, 250 have been shut down, and only 50 are functioning at present.
The officer stated that in the coming months, they will close all open garbage collection sites in the city, which will provide significant relief to the general public.
The officer further said that people litter trash near the open garbage sites that becomes a problem for the locals as well as for the department.
“The department is also initiating action against those who are identified while throwing the trash around,” he added.
The corporation has also issued tenders for the installation of the underground bins at many locations, and at some locations, some bins have already been installed; this will be followed in other areas of the city.
