Srinagar, Nov 15: Ahead of winters in Kashmir the Municipal Corporation Srinagar has procured snow clearance machines for clearance in the city, the senior official said on Tuesday.
Joint Commissioner works Rajinder Singh told Rising Kashmir “They have added 45 “4×4 snow clearance vehicles” this year to the corporation, and in the coming days, tenders will be floated for 46 additional vehicles.
Last year, the department was using tractors for snow clearance, but they were unable to clear the roads on time. Due to this, the people of the city were expressing resentment.

Previously, the people across Srinagar were complaining that there was a huge delay in clearing snow from the roads, despite the SMC’s assurance that they had put machinery on high alert to provide hassle-free movement.
Aijaz Ahmad of Batmaloo told Rising Kashmir they are hopeful this new machinery will provide a major relief to them. “Last year, some lanes at Batmaloo were cleared of snow after a week despite the SMC’s assurance that the roads would be cleared within no time,” he said.
Joint Commissioner works also said they have procured new machinery for the department that will provide a major breather to the people of the city.
On being asked about the manpower dearth in the corporation, the senior officer said they are a bit short on manpower. “In the coming days, more manpower will be added for the smooth functioning of the department.”
The people should corporate with the department as our men can’t reach every spot in a short time; it takes some time for pressmen and machinery, and the people should corporate with the employees so everything will work smoothly.
The officer continued that the corporation is for the benefit of the common people, and they will leave no stone unturned to provide every relief to the people of Srinagar in the peak winter.
Last week, speaking to reporters, the deputy mayor of the city, Parvaiz Qadri, told Rising Kashmir that they are low on manpower, but despite that, they are ready to tackle any weather exigency.
