Jammu, Sep 24: With the completion of main works under the Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) Project, the ‘City of Temples’ now wears a “smart look” almost like a metro city.
The traffic jams, a cause of concern for the people of Jammu for a long, have also gone to a large extent with the widening of the roads and the busiest rotaries of the city, and also due to the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) under the Smart City Project.
The rotaries and roads in different areas of the city like Jewel Chowk, Talab Tillo Road, Apsara Road, Akhnoor Road and others, which had become synonymous with traffic jams, are now witnessing smooth vehicular movement for most time of the day including the peak hours like office and school timings.
“The widening of the ever-busy Jewel Chowk, Apsara Road, Talab Tillo Road, flyover on Akhnoor Road and ITMS has streamlined the traffic in Jammu City to a large extent,” General Manager, JSCL, Ashish Anand told Rising Kashmir, adding, “The people have also now become aware of traffic rules and are following them.”
A total of 680 high-resolution cameras under ITMS have been installed at different locations and rotaries in Jammu City to streamline traffic and penalise the violators.
Apart from traffic management, these high-tech Pant Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras also keep a close watch on unlawful and criminal activities. They provide real-time video footage and pictures to the control rooms which help the investigating agencies and the security forces whenever they require in case of unlawful activities and other offences.
Apart from this, 3D paintings can also be seen across the city, which add to its beauty and give it a smart look. Many parks have also been developed in different areas of the ‘City of Temples’, which also enhance the city’s overall look.
In addition to this, ‘Smart Traffic Booths’ can also be seen at different locations across Jammu City which apart from adding to the beauty of the streets provides basic facilities to the cops discharging their duties in cold, hot and humid conditions.
