Pulwama, June 16: Residents of Kakapora and adjoining villages in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have expressed joy over the recent extension of the Srinagar Smart City Bus Service to their area, praising the initiative for providing a reliable and comfortable commuting experience.

The Smart Bus Service, launched a few days ago, now connects the historic town of Kakapora with Lal Chowk, Srinagar, via Oukhoo, Sethergund, Khadermoh, and Pampore.

Sara Begum, an elderly resident from Railway Colony Kakapora, described the service as highly convenient, particularly for women passengers.

“The buses are air-conditioned, punctual, and above all, offer free rides for female passengers, which makes a big difference,” she said.

Ali Mohammad, a senior citizen from Kakapora town, called the extension a welcome step for students, women, and the elderly.

“We are thankful to the government and the concerned authorities for this initiative. It has significantly improved local mobility,” he said.

He further appealed to the administration to support the service’s sustainability by developing essential infrastructure.

“We need a designated parking space for buses and a passenger shed where commuters can take shelter during harsh weather,” he added, urging revenue officials to identify suitable land for the purpose.

Fayaz Ahmad Wani, Vice President of the Traders Federation Pulwama, welcomed the extension of the Smart Bus Service to Kakapora and Parigam.

“We request the government to further extend this service to the district headquarters in Pulwama, so that a larger population can benefit,” he said.

Wani added that the demand has been raised with higher authorities, and they are hopeful of a positive response soon.
