Srinagar, June 21: Scientists from Division of Aquatic Animal Health, Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K have achieved a significant milestone with the development of the Aqua Strip, a rapid septicaemia detection strip for fish.
The innovative project was funded by J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council and was a part of PhD work of Ms. Inain Jaies, working under the guidance and mentorship of Prof. Feroz A. Shah, HoD-AAHM whose commitment to advanced and innovative research in fish health has been a driving force behind the successful development of the Aqua Strip.
Head Division of AAHM appreciated all team members including Dr. Shariq Nazir Qadri, Dr Inain Jais, Dr Shabir Dar and Dr. Asifa for successfully developing cost effective Aqua Strip for fish farmers and other stakeholders. The Aqua strip is designed to offer a rapid on-farm detection of Aeromonas septicaemia infection in fish which often leads to severe losses in aquaculture.
The development of Aqua Strip is expected to enhance the ability of fish farmers to manage the impacts of septicaemia at early stages ensuring healthier fish stocks. Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, while congratulating the team, highlighted the importance of developing such innovative solutions for the aquaculture industry.
Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K also lauded the efforts of the team and emphasized that the Aqua Strip not only represents a significant advancement in fish health management but also showcases the commitment of the University to address practical challenges through research and innovation. It is noteworthy to mention that the vision and leadership of Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganaie, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-K, has been instrumental in fostering innovation and research excellence within the University.
