Gurez, May 06:Continuing its endeavour to uplift tribal communities and harness the untapped potential of maize production, a comprehensive Training Cum Maize Seed Distribution Program was organised on Monday at Izmarg in the tribal valley of Gurez.
A collaborative effort between the KVK-Gurez and Agriculture, department aimed to equip local farmers with the necessary knowledge and resources to maximize maize yields and bolster economic prosperity in the region that has an ideal setting for maize cultivation. Participating farmers received hands-on training in modern farming techniques, including crop management, soil conservation, and pest control strategies. Additionally, high-quality maize seeds Kishan Ganga-2 developed by SKUAST-Kashmir was distributed among farmers, ensuring the adoption of improved varieties that promise higher yields and enhanced resilience to environmental stress. Additionally, agriculture tool kits were also provided to the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bilal Ahmad Bhat Head KVK-Gurez expressed optimism about the program’s potential to drive sustainable development and alleviate poverty among tribal communities. “By empowering local farmers with knowledge and resources, we aim to unlock the full agricultural potential of Gurez Valley, thereby creating new avenues for economic growth and prosperity he stated.
