Ganderbal, Mar 11: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) conducted one-day awareness program in the tribal locales of Chountt Waliwar, Ganderbal, aimed at propelling entrepreneurship opportunities within forestry and allied sectors.
This endeavour holds profound significance, particularly in regions like Waliwar, where unemployment is rampant. The programme was conducted by Division of Social & Basic Sciences, faculty of forestry in which Dr. Syed Naseem Geelani and his team appraised participants about various MSME programs and skill development opportunities with emphasis on forestry-based enterprises, encompassing nursery technology, sustainable logging practices, eco-tourism and wildlife conservation. Furthermore, the exploration of opportunities in medicinal and aromatic plants was also highlighted.
Intricacies of Government programs and MSME schemes were explained, participants exhibited keen interest in establishing their own ventures. Information on various training programs offered by the university in domain of mushroom cultivation, apiculture etc. was also shared with participants.
Dr. Showkat A. Dar, training coordinator acknowledged Vice Chancellor, Director of Planning and Monitoring, Dean Faculty of Forestry and the sponsoring agency, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India for patronage and support.
