Budgam, Oct 17: Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), Rangreth SKUAST-K in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Zone Nagam of Sub-Division Chadoora, Budgam organized an awareness camp for school dropouts, unemployed youth on “Commercial Production of Bio Inputs”.
The event was organized at Nagam with the logistical support of District Agriculture Department under Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises scheme of GoI and was attended by around 50 school dropouts/unemployed youth from Nagam Block.
At the outset, Dr. Zahida Rashid, Associate Professor (Agronomy) and Training Coordinator acquainted the participants with the latest technological developments made by SKUAST-K for increasing the value of their agriculture land through sustainable agricultural practices.
She emphasized the importance of role of Bio Inputs in cultivating the field crops and the growing demands of such crops in the food industry. Participants were educated about the cost-effective manufacturing of bio-inputs, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in this field and their role in sustainable crop Production, optimizing land productivity and maintaining ecological balance. Present on the occasion were Dr. Sabina Nasseer Assoc. Prof. (Genetics and Plant Breeding) and Dr. Shabina Majid Professor (Fruit Science) as Resource Persons who share their insights with participants. Mr. Mudasir Shafi (AEO Zone Nagam) also shared his experience on the subject and later extended vote of thanks to the team of scientists from DARS Budgam for conducting such a relevant event for rural youth/school dropouts.
