Srinagar, Dec 12: Division of Sericulture Crop Improvement of the College of Temperate Sericulture, SKUAST-K, Thursday organised one week training programme on “Sericulture-A Means of Livelihood for Poor and Marginal Farmers” in collaboration with Shri Pratap College, Srinagar.
A statement issued here said that the event was sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India with the aim to enlighten students by showcasing the economic potential and entrepreneurial opportunities in sericulture. Dr. Mohd Younus Wani, the Programme Coordinator, welcomed the participants and highlighted the crucial importance of skill-based training programmes in empowering the youth.
Dr. Wani also emphasized that such initiatives have the potential to create sustainable livelihood opportunities and enhance the economic independence of farmers.
Prof. N. A. Ganie, Head of the Division of Sericulture Crop Improvement, underscored the relevance
of skill-based programmes in promoting advancements in sericulture technologies. Prof. K.A. Sahaf,
Associate Dean of the College, urged participants to make the most of the training sessions and
assured further support to those interested in pursuing sericulture as a viable livelihood option.
