Jammu, Dec 26: Highlighting the numerous steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour the legacy of Sikh Gurus and revive their teachings, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to the Sahibzades, Mata Gujri Ji, and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji for their unparalleled sacrifices in the service of the country.
Addressing the gathering at the ‘Vishesh Shaheedi Samagam’ organized by the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee on the occasion of ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ at Gurdwara Digiana Ashram, the Lieutenant Governor stated, “The Sikh Gurus have made unparalleled sacrifices for the nation. The contributions of the Sikh community and their Gurus have been pivotal in awakening society and safeguarding its core values.”
“The government has developed the Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor, facilitating a hassle-free pilgrimage, and created state-of-the-art infrastructure for devotees,” he added. He also pointed out the FCRA registration of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib, Punjab, to provide global Sikh Sangat an opportunity to participate in Sewa.
Emphasizing the relevance of the Sikh Gurus’ ideals in today’s society, LG Sinha said, “The teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji inspire the nation’s soldiers guarding our frontiers. On this solemn occasion, let us pledge to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation and strengthen the bond of brotherhood.”
The Lieutenant Governor urged the youth to honor the sacrifices of the brave Sahibzades and respect the legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He added that the values instilled by the Sikh Gurus symbolize the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” inspiring the country to move forward with progress and unity.
He also applauded the Sikh community for their immense contributions to the country’s progress, reaffirming the government’s commitment to making India stronger and more prosperous.
On the occasion, LG Sinha spoke about the government’s efforts to address long-pending issues of the Sikh community, including the installation of a statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji in Jammu, the establishment of the Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chair at Jammu University, the implementation of the Anand Marriage Act, and the notification of its rules. Additionally, he highlighted the promotion of the Punjabi language in schools in the Jammu region.
The Lieutenant Governor also felicitated the youth of the Sikh community for their exceptional achievements across various fields.
Present at the event were Mahant Manjeet Singh, S. Ajit Singh (Chairman of the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee), and other eminent figures from the Sikh community. Senior government officials, including Dr. Narinder Singh Raina (MLA RS Pura Jammu South), Anand Jain (ADGP Jammu), Ramesh Kumar (Divisional Commissioner Jammu), along with representatives from the police and civil administration, were also in attendance.
Similarly, in another event, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today attended the Christmas celebrations organised by the All J&K Christian Sabha. During the event, he interacted with Bishop, priests, and members of the CNI Church, Jammu-Srinagar Diocese, and the All J&K Christian Sabha, commending their efforts in fostering a peaceful, selfless, compassionate, and caring society.
“The Christian community has selflessly served society, making immense contributions in the fields of education and healthcare. I hope their commitment to service continues to inspire others,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor urged all sections of society to embrace the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ, promoting the spirit of peace, forgiveness, and compassion. “Our prime objective is to light the lamp of love, kindness, and brotherhood in the heart of every citizen,” he said.
Emphasising India’s unique cultural heritage, the Lieutenant Governor stated, “India’s culture is ageless and has witnessed the co-existence of almost all major religions. This co-existence has enriched and diversified our cultural heritage.”
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the significance of Lord Jesus Christ’s teachings in today’s world, particularly his emphasis on the brotherhood of mankind, harmony, selfless action, and the fight against discrimination. “Lord Jesus Christ’s life is a testament to love, non-violence, peace, and forgiveness, and his teachings are a source of inspiration for all humanity,” he concluded.
Most Rev. Ivan Albert Pereira, Bishop of Jammu-Srinagar Diocese, expressed the Christian community’s support and cooperation with the government in its efforts toward inclusive development in J&K. “We are proud that our government has fostered an environment where people of all faiths and communities can live in peace and harmony,” he said.
The event was attended by Ashu Peter Mattoo, President of the All J&K Christian Sabha, members of the CNI Church, Jammu-Srinagar Diocese, heads of various institutions and organisations, youth, community members, and prominent citizens from all walks of life.
