Baramulla, Oct 01: In its relentless campaign against drug peddling, the Baramulla Police on Sunday claimed to have achieved notable success, witnessing a significant decline in registered cases against drug smugglers over recent months.
Baramulla police said that the collective efforts of the police have resulted in a significant reduction in drug peddling cases in police district Baramulla.
“While the first half of the year saw an increase, with cases surging from 10 to 40 in April alone, this trend reversed from July onwards, with 18 cases in July, 15 in August, and another 18 in September.”
A police official said that as of September 30, the police have filed 231 cases under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 403 drug peddlers, including 62 hard-core offenders booked under PIT NDPS PSA.
“Additionally, properties belonging to drug peddlers, valued in crores, have been seized,” he said.
The police official said that Baramulla police have also conducted substantial seizures of contraband, amounting to crores in the black market.
“Properties of drug peddlers valued at Rs 2.1 crores, encompassing three houses, three vehicles, and cash totaling Rs. 1.2 crores, have been attached by the police,” he added.
The residents of the district have expressed their faith and satisfaction in the police’s actions against drugs, demonstrating full support for their efforts.
The police official further said that the commitment of Baramulla Police remains unwavering in confronting drug smugglers and seizing both movable and immovable property associated with illicit trafficking within the district.
Baramulla police in a message appealed to the general public to provide information about drug peddlers in their areas (with identities kept confidential) to support the police in eradicating the menace of drugs from society.
