Katra, July 7: Three judokas from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Complex – Varun Sharma, Rajat Singh Chib and Akshay Sharma have earned the distinction of representing India in the esteemed World University Games and Asia Cup, events governed by the International Judo Federation.A statement issued here said that Varun Sharma will compete in the 81 kg category Judo competition at the World University Games in Berlin, Germany from July 16-27. Meanwhile, Rajat Singh Chib and Akshay Sharma will represent India in the 90 kg and 73 kg categories respectively at the Senior and Junior Asia Cup Judo competition in Taiwan scheduled from July 12-17.Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB presented internationally approved judo kits to the judokas in the presence of Satish Sharma, Jt. Chief Executive Officer, Dhruv Gupta, Director (Sports), SMVD Sports Complex and Danish Sharma, Judo Coach at Central Office, Katra with the gesture to support the athletes in their international endeavours, enabling them to perform at their best while representing India. On the occasion, he also extended his best wishes to athletes on behalf of the Hon’ble Chairman, SMVDSB (Lt. Governor, JK-UT) for their upcoming events. Noteworthy that the SMVD Sports Complex has played a pivotal role in nurturing the judokas’ talents by offering state-of-the-art facilities and expert guidance under the mentorship of coach Danish Sharma. The SMVD Sports Complex is currently nurturing the talents of over 150 aspiring athletes across various sports disciplines, who have been consistently delivering promising results in national and international competitions.
