Ganderbal, Sept 06: A Shivling-like structure was discovered on Saturday in a stone quarry at Checki Yangoora village near Manasbal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, sparking a rare and heartening display of communal harmony between local Muslim and Kashmiri Pandit communities.
The structure was first spotted by Aijaz Ahmad Ellahi, a local resident passing by the quarry. He promptly informed the nearby SSB post at Sainik School Manasbal, which escalated the matter to the district administration and the Kashmiri Pandit community.
Soon after, members of the Pandit community gathered at the site and performed puja and prayers in the presence of local Muslims, marking a moment of mutual respect and shared spirituality.
“I was walking past the quarry when I noticed the Shivling-like structure. This place holds personal significance for me as my father lost his life here years ago. I immediately informed the SSB,” said Ellahi.
Local Muslims welcomed the Pandit community’s presence, expressing solidarity and respect for the rituals. Kashmiri Pandit Vir Ji Raina described the discovery as sacred, calling it “Shiv Ji Maharaj.”
The site quickly became a focal point for spiritual devotion, with devotees offering incense sticks, flowers, and prayers. The Pandit community has appealed to authorities to preserve and protect the structure to allow for continued worship and visitation.
“This discovery is not just a religious finding but a symbol of spiritual presence and unity in our region. We feel truly blessed,” said a local devotee.
