Pulwama: The residents of Lalpora Khalil village in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded shifting of Primary Health Centre (PHC) to newly constructed building.
The residents said that the PHC is presently operating from a three room building where the staff has to work in cramped conditions.
“The shortage of space is causing inconvenience to the staff and patients as well,” Adil Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that this is a vital health facility catering to a big chunk of population from Lalpora and surrounding 8 villages.
The local residents said that the PHC has a staff strength of around 9 people who remain cramped in a single room.
“One room is used as a store and in 3rd room patients are attended,” the residents said, adding that the PHC also lacks the facility of a night clinic.
The locals added that an ambulance was donated to the PHC by a former member of legislative assembly.
“The ambulance was later shifted to another health facility because the PHC was having no space available for parking the vehicle,” the residents said.
Adil said that a new building has been constructed for the PHC.
“The building is almost complete, only some interior works are pending,” he said, pleading with concerned authorities to ask the construction agency to speed up the pace of work and shift the PHC to the new building as soon as possible.
A staffer at the PHC wishing anonymity said that shifting to the new building will comfort both the staff and patients as they will be able to serve patients with upgraded facilities.
BMO Tral, Dr Virender Singh, said that they are ready to shift to the new building once it is handed over to them.
The construction agency is yet to hand it over to our department,” he said.
He said that they will write to the construction agency through higher authorities of the health department for completing the remaining work as soon as possible.
