Srinagar, Sept 10: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, held a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to assess the supply and transportation of essential commodities across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Managing Director of JKSRTC, Rakesh Sarangal; Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan; and other senior officials from relevant departments.
During the briefing, the Minister was informed about the daily deployment of trucks for lifting food grains and essential supplies to ensure continuous availability in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Specifically, in Kashmir, 210 trucks transport approximately 20,000 quintals of commodities daily, while in Jammu, 190 trucks are engaged, lifting around 16,150 quintals. Overall, about 400 trucks are operational each day, transporting nearly 36,150 quintals of essentials.
Addressing the officials, Sharma said that timely delivery of food grains, LPG, and other essentials is a top priority, especially given the current weather conditions. He urged maintaining uninterrupted supplies across all districts and called for close coordination between the FCS&CA Department, Transport Department, and JKSRTC to ensure smooth logistics and last-mile delivery.
The minister directed maintaining adequate buffer stocks in vulnerable and remote areas to prevent any hardships for residents. He appreciated the efforts of transport authorities and drivers working tirelessly to keep the supply chain operational.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Sharma assured that ensuring food security and uninterrupted delivery of essentials to every household in Jammu and Kashmir remains a top priority.
