Kashmir, a paradise on earth, is facing a harsh reality that threatens the very fabric of its society. Behind the breathtaking landscapes and warm hospitality, a sinister world of deceit and exploitation lurks, preying on the vulnerable and unsuspecting. Recent events have brought to light the dark underbelly of the region’s food industry, where substandard mutton and contaminated food products have become a norm.
The issue goes beyond just meat, with processed foods, artificial colors, and expired packet food items widely available in the market. Contaminated milk, baby foods, and other essential commodities are compromising public health. The use of artificial preservatives, flavor enhancers, and colors in food products is a growing concern. The lack of effective regulation and monitoring has allowed unscrupulous vendors to thrive, putting the lives of Kashmiris at risk.
The recent incident in Shopian, where a large quantity of spurious liquor was recovered near a school, is a stark reminder of the gravity of the situation. The fact that such a large quantity of illicit liquor was found in close proximity to a school raises serious questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in the region. It’s a chilling reminder that the youth of Kashmir are vulnerable to the dangers of substance abuse, and it’s imperative that the authorities take stringent action to curb this menace.
Meanwhile, a gang of thieves from outside Kashmir is operating on the busy streets of Srinagar and other major towns, targeting unsuspecting ladies traveling in passenger transport. These thieves dupe their victims of gold bangles and engage in pickpocketing, leaving the victims traumatized and helpless. Despite reporting these incidents to the police, the culprits often go unpunished, emboldening them to continue their nefarious activities.
Furthermore, beggars from neighboring states, particularly Bihar, have been found to be involved in drug peddling and the illegal trade of substandard liquor. These individuals often operate with impunity, taking advantage of the vulnerabilities of Kashmir’s youth. The authorities must take concrete steps to address this issue and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The menace of fake medical practitioners operating in Kashmir is another pressing concern. Unqualified individuals are running pharmacies and prescribing medicines, often with devastating consequences. The sale of substandard medicines, expired drugs, and irrational prescriptions is rampant, putting patients’ lives at risk.
To break this vicious cycle, collective action is necessary. The government must take stringent measures to regulate the food industry, crack down on fake medical practitioners, and ensure that those responsible for compromising public health are held accountable. The authorities must also take concrete steps to address the issue of theft and begging, which has become a menace in the region.
By working together, we can create a safer and more transparent society for everyone. It’s time to shine a light on these hidden menaces and demand action from those in power. Only then can we ensure that Kashmir’s beauty is not marred by the shadows of deceit.
