Srinagar, August 27: The Sericulture Development Department, Jammu and Kashmir, Wednesday concluded a three-day Skill Development Training Programme at Theed in Srinagar. The programme was formally closed by Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K.A statement issued here said that Bhat stated that the training was designed to equip silkworm rearers and farmers with practical knowledge and hands-on exposure to modern sericulture practices. He emphasised that such initiatives enable farmers to adopt advanced rearing techniques, improve productivity, enhance quality, and ensure sustainability in cocoon production. Highlighting the Government’s focus on capacity building and outreach, Bhat underlined that the department is working through awareness programmes and schemes to empower farmers, helping them to increase income potential while simultaneously strengthening the sericulture industry across the Union Territory.During the concluding session, toolkits and certificates were distributed among the trainees to encourage them to apply the techniques learned in their day-to-day rearing activities. Bhat added that the department is making consistent efforts to bridge the gap between farmers and technology, while ensuring that benefits of centrally sponsored and UT-level schemes reach the grassroots level. The training witnessed an overwhelming response, with a large number of local farmers and silkworm rearers actively participating. The attendees expressed gratitude to the department for providing valuable opportunities, which they believe will significantly improve their practices and livelihood.
