Srinagar, June 05: A multi-layered security grid has been put in place across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-profile visit on Friday. He is set to inaugurate the much-anticipated Kashmir rail link and dedicate to the nation a slew of development projects worth over ₹46,000 crore in Katra.
This will be PM Modi’s first visit to the Union Territory since the Indian Armed Forces successfully launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.
A police officer at Police Headquarters told Rising Kashmir that security has been reinforced in Katra and adjacent districts in preparation for the PM’s visit on Friday.
“A high-level meeting regarding PM Modi’s security arrangements was held in Jammu, attended by heads of various agencies. Some SOPs have been formulated for arrangements and they will be accordingly implemented,” he said.
Additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at vital spots. CCTV surveillance, checkpoints, and frisking points have been established to address security concerns in Jammu and adjoining districts,” the official said.
The officer mentioned that Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel have been stationed in the city to monitor any suspicious activities. J&K Police Commandos, along with CRPF personnel, have been positioned around the railway track.
“Nakas (checkpoints) and checking points will continue to operate along the major highways in the region and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. Special teams have been deputed and they are on alert,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior police officials, paramilitary forces, army, and intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Heavy security deployment has been carried out in and around the event venues, with drones and other surveillance gadgets pressed into service.
Security has also been tightened along the borders and within the hinterland to prevent any infiltration attempts or movement of subversive elements.
Officials said area domination patrols and targeted raids on the residences of suspected individuals, including Over Ground Workers and relatives of terrorists based across the border, have been intensified as a precautionary measure.
Comprehensive security arrangements have been implemented to ensure a smooth and secure event, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Additional personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Special Security Battalion (SSB) have been stationed at critical points along the highway, especially in areas such as Kulgam Qazigund , to maintain vigilance and prevent any untoward incidents.
He also directed the officers to enhance surveillance and threat detection capabilities by utilizing advanced technologies and real-time monitoring.
This monumental project will establish seamless, all-weather rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, significantly enhancing regional mobility and economic integration.
