Screening programme on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease held at SKIMS MC

Srinagar, April 19: SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Srinagar, on Saturday launched a screening programme on the World Liver Day, focusing on Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) among youth aged 18 to 25 years.
The programme aimed to spread awareness and promote early screening for NAFLD, which is increasingly seen in the younger population due to changing lifestyles and dietary habits.
Principal SKIMS MC, Prof. Fazlul Qadir, while addressing the participants, stressed the need to focus on the younger age group for early detection of NAFLD.
He said that the initiative is a timely and relevant step towards preventive healthcare and appreciated the role of the departments involved in making the program a reality.
During the session, faculty from Department of Community Medicine, SKIMS MC including Dr. Yameena Jan and Dr. Beenish discussed the epidemiology, risk factors, and prevention of NAFLD.
Dr. Imran Nazir from the Department of Radio-diagnosis highlighted the diagnostic methods including imaging tools used for detecting fatty liver. Dr. Muzaffar A. Naik from the Department of General Medicine deliberated on detailed management strategies for NAFLD. HoD, Community Medicine SKIMS MC Prof. Ashfaq Bhat stressed on the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and routine health check-ups to maintain liver health.
Registrar Academics Prof. Aijaz A Rather in his address extended full support to the initiative and encouraged similar health-focused programs in the future. Officials said the move is part of SKIMS Medical College’s ongoing commitment to raising health awareness and promoting preventive care practices among students and community.
