Schools in Kashmir division are all set to reopen on Friday following a winter vacation of more than 87 days.
An official said that more than ten thousand private and government employees will resume their academic activities from Friday.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the schools in Kashmir were scheduled to reopen on March-01 but due to the inclement weather, authorities extended the vacations by a week.
The government on December-06 had announced winter vacation for all public and recognised private educational institutions in the Kashmir division as well as in the winter zones of Jammu division in two phases starting from December 10.
Winter vacations for Classes upto 5th primary were announced from December-10-2024 to February 28, 2025.
Similarly for the 6th standard to 12th standard, the vacations were announced from December 16 to February 28, 2025.
However, on February-28—a day before the reopening of schools, Education Minister, Sakina Masood Itoo said that winter vacations for all classes in Kashmir schools have been extended till March-6.
Itoo had said, “Keeping in view the prevalent weather conditions, the government has decided to extend the winter vacation for all government and recognised private schools of Kashmir region.
The minister had further informed that in case any student enrolled for the board exams couldn’t reach the exam centre, the government will make sure that it will conduct their exam later.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Gurez valley had also extended winter vacation for all schools till March-8.
The decision was taken in wake of heavy snowfall, and prevailing weather conditions in the area.
