Bandipora, Aug 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Saturday presided over a discussion on ‘Roots and Wings – Growing with Nature’ organised at Chitternar Bandipora to spread awareness among students about environmental conservation and sustainable living.During the programme, students shared powerful messages on the importance of protecting nature.Speakers highlighted that nature is greater than wealth, technology, or human power, and destroying it would ultimately lead to our own destruction. They urged participants to save the environment for future generations, stressing that climate change is a universal issue that demands collective action.Students presented excellent talking points on the plan of action for environmental protectionIn a friendly conversation with the children, DC stressed on practical actions like rainwater harvesting and waste segregation. “It is easier in Bandipora to collect the water as the rooftops are sloppy,” she said.Chib urged students to make their families aware of correct waste management and not to give wet waste to Municipal Committees and prepare compost from it in their homes. She reminded the audience that while older generations neglected the environment, the youth must take the lead in preserving it for the future.On the occasion, Principal, Forest Training School Chitternar, underlined the importance of such initiatives in sensitising youth and called for more awareness drives that combine classroom learning with field exposure in forests.The event witnessed the participation of Padma Shri Awardee Faisal Ali Dar, school children, teachers, and officials from the Forest Department.
