Ganderbal, Apr 02: A residential house in the Tangpati Sumbal area of Gund, in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was completely destroyed in a massive fire on Tuesday.
The house belonged to Shabir Ahmad Chichi, son of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Tangpati Sumbal.
According to Chichi, the fire broke out due to a short circuit caused by heavy winds. “The strong winds led to a short circuit between two wires, which sparked the fire,” he said.
As soon as the incident occurred, locals and the Gund Police rushed to the spot in an attempt to douse the flames. Fire and Emergency Services also arrived to control the blaze. However, due to the house being located far from the main road, water pressure was inadequate, resulting in the complete destruction of the house.
Chichi urged the government to provide compensation for his loss, as the fire had left him without a home.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
