Rank Ceremony, enrolment drive for NCC Cadets held at NIT Srinagar

Institute considering introducing NCC as an elective subject: Registrar

Srinagar, Apr 25: The rank ceremony, enrollment drive for session 2024-25 for National Cadet Corps (NCC) girls’ unit was held on Thursday at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
The session was presided over by Commanding officer (CO) of 1 J&K Girls Battalion Srinagar, Col. SP Tiwari and Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rahman was Guest of Honor on the occasion.
The event was attended by Dean P&D, Dr Yashwant Mehta, Associate NCC Commissioned Officer Lt. (Dr.) Nitika Kundan, Institute Chairman of selection committee Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
During the event, NCC cadets received recognition for their hard work with new ranks. 14 students were successfully selected for the new batch, bringing the total number of cadets on campus to 50.
These ranks—Lance Corporal, Corporal, and Sergeant—are bestowed upon individuals who exhibit mental resilience, confidence, sociability, and integrity, following a year-long evaluation by the NCC higher ups.
They were also presented with mementos and certificates in recognition of their outstanding contributions. Special acknowledgment was given to NCC Cadets who actively participated in various social activities on the campus.
With proud smiles and a sense of accomplishment, these cadets accepted their new ranks, ready to shoulder greater responsibilities within the unit.
During the event, Col. SP Tiwari stated that NCC unit of NIT Srinagar has been reaching new milestones over the past two years including Commission Officer, due to enthusiastic support and involvement of the cadets.
“NCC plays a crucial role in fostering patriotism and national unity among its cadets, instilling a deep sense of pride in their country and its core values,” he said.
Col. Tiwari encouraged cadets who attended NCC camps to share their experiences with others, boosting morale.
He also explained NCC’s main goal: to build character, leadership, and a sense of service in young people, motivating them to contribute to national development and social activities.
Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rahman said that the Institute is considering introducing NCC as an elective subject, which will provide significant opportunities for students interested in NCC.
He said that this initiative will not only bolster their morale but also contribute to their academic performance by earning valuable grading points.
In addition, Prof. Rahman extended his congratulations to all cadets and commended their hard work and dedication.
He highlighted the pivotal role of NCC in character formation, offering valuable opportunities for the development of essential skills and values crucial for lifelong success.
The event was followed by interviews of a new batch, conducted by the Commanding Officer (CO). NCC Commissioned Officer Lt. (Dr.) Nitika Kundan,NCC Officer II Dr. Jannani L, and Institute’s Chairman of selection committee Dr. S. Mishra.
