Jammu, Apr 18: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Rajiv Jasrotia of Jasrota constituency called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan to present a range of demands for his constituency. During the meeting, Jasrotia emphasised pressing issues and concerns affecting the area, calling for urgent attention and implementation of development projects that benefit the residents of Jasrota.
A key focus of Jasrotia’s discussion was improving connectivity with Kathua, Billawar, Basholi, Bani, and Bhaderwah via the main railway line in Kathua. He noted that the Nav Kathua Railway Station Nirmaan Samiti has already prepared a project to connect these areas with the main railway line through the most feasible and shortest route.
The proposed five-phase project aims to enhance transportation and stimulate economic growth in the region, with the railway line connecting Kathua town to Billawar, Udhampur via Dhar Road, Basholi, Bani, and Bhaderwah. Jasrotia highlighted that this railway link would significantly boost the tourist potential of the area and provide a crucial alternative route for security, enhancing regional connectivity to the Udhampur-Baramulla rail link.
The MLA urged Lieutenant Governor Sinha to advocate for the project and engage with the Union Minister for Railways to seek approval for Phases I and II so that these picturesque locations can be integrated into the railway network. Jasrotia asserted that the new railway line would enhance transportation infrastructure, stimulate economic development, and create opportunities for local businesses.
He further noted the potential for increased tourism, given the region’s scenic beauty, including attractions such as the Chattergala Pass and Bhaderwah’s landscapes. The proposed Chattergala tunnel, a 6.8 km long project, aims to connect Kathua and Doda via Bani, further reducing travel time and improving regional connectivity.
To complement these efforts, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has initiated road development projects in the region, including the Sarthal-Chattergala road, to unlock the tourism potential and enhance infrastructure, Jasrotia said.
